Kwanzaa 365 is a curriculum based on the seven principles of Kwanzaa. In following the principles every single day of the year, we teach black children loyalty to and protection of their roots grounded in Africa.
Where do we come from?
How are we connected?
Why is it important to preserve that connection?
How do we preserve that connection?
All of these questions are part of the motivation of this curriculum. Children come to know the teachings of Marcus Garvey and other revolutionaries. They gain an awareness of the motherland and the various cultures and diversity within our diaspora. And they learn the ultimate lesson that holds the key to our revolution: how to protect the people.
The Kwanzaa Principles:
Our curriculum makes the principles synonymous with every day of the week:
- Umoja (Unity) Monday
- Kujichagulia (Self Determination) Tuesday
- Ujima (Working Together) Wednesday
- Ujamaa (Helping Our Neighborhoods Grow) Thursday
- Nia (Purpose) Friday
- Kuumba (Creativity) Saturday
- Imani (Faith) Sunday
Each principle is discussed and explored at a developmentally appropriate age level within the early childhood realm.
